i finally got the full video (filmed in HD by Tim Warner), all 9.9 gigs of it, and have it, after nearly crashing my computer twice, snugly nestled on my hard drive. It looks incredible! Should have DVDs available by the end of the week. So please look at Nick’s video to whet your appetite!

So… Scratch is done. For now, anyway. I’ve still got to get the full video, there’s a review I hear is coming, and I have yet to fully decompress. But people keep asking me: How do you feel about it?

Well the short answer is I feel incredible. I’m thrilled with my performance, and with the hard work and dedication of Penny Pollak in the booth and Mike, Natalie, and Murdock at rehearsals and in their performances. It was truly a team effort, and against a LOT of fucking odds, we pulled it off and made it really special for the people in the audience. But why take my word for it? A word to all who came (and to all who would have come): You are amazing. Your support, encouragement, and friendship are so important to me. What happened on Nov 15th does. not. happen. without. all. of. you. That is fucking gospel and I will never forget it.

There is a section of about 20-25 lines in “Audition” that were written in 1999, and there are another handful of lines from that scene that I wrote about a week before the play went up. This was truly a journey or ten years for me, and it will be, when I die, one of the singular events of my life, that first performance. and it was a god damn triumph.

Part of (a)muse collective’s Six Deadly Miracles series of solo shows by its members, Scratch tells the story of a man trying to decide whether or not to leave New York City in the wake of his failed engagement. We follow him through what could be his last few hours in New York, sifting through his psychological Lost and Found to try and make sense of what was lost and to stock up on supplies before moving on to what’s next. A dramatization, condensation, and re-imagining of events from the author’s life, Scratch is a meditation on loss, expectations, motivation, and home. A life in the night of a tough call.

So here’s the link to the whole article. Definitely pass this around if you like it, I want to get him lots of hits. Brent is a good guy and an actor and poet. He’s been reading at Penny’s too, something to look forward to if you haven’t been in a while.

I can say from personal experience, as a performer, Joe is anything but ‘safe’. His act constantly varies between impromptu musical numbers, comedy, and strikingly intense and real moments. “I’m always looking for an opportunity to break the fourth wall [When I perform]” He tells me between sips of Pabst “People have this idea that there’s a separation when they watch a performer, a distance, and when you break that barrier, when you do something they don’t expect and communicate with them directly, there’s real power there.”

That’s right, ya’ll. (a)muse collective has a TV show featuring the best and brightest of our little East Village family. (a)muse members Penny Pollak, Marsha, Joe Yoga, John Murdock, Natalie Underwood and Mike Milazzo do comedy, music, performance art, sketches, open mic ramblings, etc. Other performers featured on the show include Killer Kelly Dwyer, The Sisters Rock, Emleigh Wolf, Mike Birch, and many more!

Catch us every Fri night/Sat morning at 1 A.M. – on MNN public access. For Time Warner customers it’s channel 34, for RCN customers it’s 83. Outside of Manhattan you have to stream it live on mnn.org at 1am. marsha says: you have to have a windows media player installed. on Macs I use Flip4Mac.

It runs from 12 – 7pm each day, and is FREE.
