Did you know you can download my album for free on my last.fm page? I always hear about people having last.fm pages but so far no real luck getting people to “friend” me and such. I guess it’s like flickr, do people really use it for anything other than looking at pictures and/or storing them? I guess it’s a bit much to expect the activity of listening to music on headphones while staring at a computer screen to have any social aspect.

Kill the band, motherfuckers! KILL THE BAND @ FRIGID New York with Horse Trade Theater Group this February/March! KILL THE BAND IS THE ORIGINAL, COMEDY ROCK AND ROLL, ANTI-CABARET! We are going to fuck your faces off!

Things are happening fast so we’re going to jump all over this shit. Catch us on our facebook fanpage to keep up with all the joneses! Feel alive baby! Do it!

COINCIDING WITH THE RELEASE OF THEIR FIRST ALBUM, this unpredictable, unforgettable, outrageously funny musical experience is both the band’s breakdown and breakthrough…. Part Lucille Ball on her 3rd bottle of 5 Hour Power, part Meatloaf, sexy with a side of silly… KILL THE BAND takes you on a cleverly comedic trip and performs original songs from various musical genres in this balls-to-the-wall, multi-media, performance art piece. Escape the normal, punch average in the face, burn your self help books on tape and catch the thrill that is KILL THE BAND!

We’re going to be featured at the Frigid Festival this February! But that’s not what this post is about. Every once in a while at Penny’s Open Mic we do “Covers Night”, which is a chance for the performers to pay tribute to each other. It’s always a super fun night. So at the most recent covers night (last week) the great Mike Birch decided to cover Kill the Band’s “Famous Baby”… here is the video!!

Woke up today (Thanksgiving) to some good news in the form of an email from www.thesixtyone.com saying that my song “Life as a Movie” had hit the front page of their website.

“the sixty one” is a music site for artists to post songs and for listeners to find new shit to listen to. much like last.fm. except the sixty one seems to have a bigger focus on independent artists and is pushing creative commons hard (haven’t looked into creative commons a lot, it appeals to me but I’m still wary for reasons that are hard to articulate, but have something to do with the fact that if you leave yourself unprotected, people will abuse and exploit you to the extent they’re allowed to).

returning to my song though… it was pretty cool to see that. The song got 320 “hearts” (think facebook “likes”) which is awesome to think that over the last week or so 320 random people heard my song and liked it.

my point being… why not try to get all my songs voted up? so here i am asking you to… well… I’m not going to ask you to sign up for an account just to vote my songs up, but how about this… you go visit the site and peek around for a minute or two, and if it looks like something you might use more than say, five times, then by all means sign up for an account and go to http://www.thesixtyone.com/joeyoga/ and heart my little songs into oblivion. But only if you really like them! I don’t want to cheat. All twelve songs that make up my album The Dreamless Sea are up there and available to stream and download for free.

Part of (a)muse collective’s Six Deadly Miracles series of solo shows by its members, Scratch tells the story of a man trying to decide whether or not to leave New York City in the wake of his failed engagement. We follow him through what could be his last few hours in New York, sifting through his psychological Lost and Found to try and make sense of what was lost and to stock up on supplies before moving on to what’s next. A dramatization, condensation, and re-imagining of events from the author’s life, Scratch is a meditation on loss, expectations, motivation, and home. A life in the night of a tough call.
