“Arrival”
The last cloud has turned over
and the last light has fallen from the sky
the double barrel streetlights cry
their elongated reflections
across the surface of the river:
shivering,
with the premonition of a cold july,
like magnet furs
suspended between bridges.
longer than the church steeples
that dominate the starless sky,
I,
and everyone else here
cringe like heartburn.
fallen trees like creaked fingers
dip ripples into the [...]

okay
the building that I work at is a tough scene for me
it’s four floors of lawyers
three floors of insurance people
and way too many conversations
about the weather
for me to feel like it’s worth hiding the hangover
unlike the rest of them.

part of the night, part of the distance,
part of the cyclical cleansing process,
part of nature’s clean up crew.
It was supposed to was all the
built up dirt away, and it did,
bringing it with it where ever

This is the first time I’ve ever performed this piece, which is at once old and brand new (it’s basically an old-ish poem I re-wrote as a performance piece). It’s going to be the centerpiece of my one man show Scratch, coming in November.
